As one of four alien cats in mech-suits [already, what’s not to love?! – Ed], the player must clear enemy waves using weapons with limited ammo. The mech transforms into a ball for greater mobility, using its dash move (limited by a cooldown) to deny enemy attacks and smash them to pieces. Defeated enemies drop weapons and ammo.
Clearing a level in Go Mecha Ball awards one of three extras for the current run; more abilities, upgrades, and weapons can be unlocked by spending currency at gachapon machines in the lobby (which is also home to the tutorial). Every fourth level gives you access to a big shop before tackling one of four giant bosses, each of which requiring very different tactics to beat.
Visually polished, the frenetic gameplay does get repetitive in the long term. More variety in backgrounds and enemies would have helped, but persistence unlocks better gear and strategies. A decent debut that needed more spice.
